Board Profile: Larry Huang

Co-op Cabs’ seven people Board of Directors have been guiding the organization for over fifty years. Much of the company’s success is thanks to these dedicated individuals who serve to make the company better each and every day. Larry Huang, is one such board member. Our bloggers will be profiling drivers and board members in the coming months to help Torontonians learn more about the people behind the wheel at Co-op Cabs.

**Board Member:** Larry Huang, Secretary

**Co-op Board Member since:** 1979

**History with Co-op:** I’ve been driving a cab for Co-op for almost 45 years now. I love what I do.

**Most memorable cab story:**

I’ll never forget what it was like when I first received my owner’s license. I was so eager to drive and back then, there weren’t as many cabs on the road, so it was incredibly lucrative. I can honestly say it was one of the best times of my life.

I loved driving on Friday nights or Saturdays. I would go to the local grocery stores. Customers would be lined up. I would take 3 or 4 at a time and separate the groceries in the back. They always handed me a nice, big tip. I loved receiving the thanks from customers.

One lady, who I picked up at the grocery store, said I was sent by god because she couldn’t get a cab. She was so thankful because of the lack of cabs in Toronto.

**What is it about Co-op that you like?**

I enjoy this job so much because I learn about people and the places they’re going. Co-op was the best and still is the best company to drive for, especially because it’s a true co-operative. You can really excel in the company if you’re willing to take some initiative to find out how to progress yourself. After 45 years, I can say I’ve made a success out of my life.

**What might people not know about you?**

I love hockey. I wish I could play like my idols Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky or Steve Yzerman
