Are you a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays? If you are, then you probably do not need to be told that they are the only Major League Baseball (MLB) team with a home base outside the USA. The team first surfaced in 1977 and then went on to win the World Series Championship in 1992 and 1993. The Jays have given rise to baseball legends like Devon White, Joe Carter, John Olerud and Roberto Alomar. Now it is one of the most prominent players in the Eastern Division of MLB’s American League.

One of the only three MLB teams under corporate ownership, the Blue Jays have been owned by Rogers Communications since the purchase in 2000. Prior to this, the team was owned by the Labatt Brewing Company and based at the Exhibition Stadium. In 1989, the team moved to the SkyDome, now renamed the Rogers Centre. The team has called been calling it their home since then.

Here are some fun facts about the Toronto Blue Jays:

Since 2004, the team’s mascot is a character names Ace. Between 2000 and 2004, Ace was accompanied by a character called Diamond. The team’s original mascot was BJ Birdy.

The Blue Jays played their first game against the Chicago White Sox on April 7, 1977 before a home crowd of 44,659 and won it 9 5.

The team capped their winning streak by winning the World Series Championship back to back in 1992 and 1993. They have not won the World Series since then.

In 1991, the Blue Jays made history by becoming the first MLB team to attract over four million spectators to their game. Since then, the record has been broken by other teams.

So far, five Blue Jays players and one general manager have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. They are Roberto Alomar, Rickney Henderson, Phil Niekro, Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield and Pat Gillick (general manager).

Several Blue Jays players have become very popular and won more than one All-Star selections. Dave Stieb’s seven All-Star selections are still unbeaten in the franchise’s history.
